
Indiana University's School of Education Reading Assessment Workshop (for credit)
Indiana University's School of Education will be offering a week-long workshop for graduate level credit on the effective use of reading assessments in the classroom. There will be in-depth training in using the Indiana Reading Diagnostic Assessments (K-2) and the IRDA-Online System to shape a Standards-based instructional program. The class/workshop will also include general information that will help participants make informed decisions about the best assessments to use to meet the needs of their classrooms. Participants will earn three graduate-level credits that can be applied to most license renewal programs.

During the week-long workshop, participants will learn about:
- Reading Assessments
- Definitions and significance
- Effective and ineffective uses
- Different types for different purposes
- Comparison of well-known assessments
- Indiana Reading Diagnostic Assessment Training
- Administration and sample scoring
- IRDA-Online reports and interventions
- Shaping instruction based on diagnostic information
- IRDA-Online training (in computer lab)
- Response to Intervention Approaches
- Comparison of approaches
- Using IRDAs within an RtI program
- Standards-based interventions
- Options for monitoring progress
Participants will be expected to develop a project* that includes:
- Interpretation of class and student scores based on the Indiana Reading Diagnostic Assessment results
- IRDA-Online reports
- Standards-based instructional plans
- Collaborative efforts
- Analysis of individual student results including identifying students at-risk and flexible groups for differentiated instruction
Time will be given during class to complete the project.
* Noncredit participants who do not request CRUs are not required to complete the project, but may complete it at their own discretion.
