The Center for Innovation in Assessment is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to designing and developing quality educational materials for elementary and secondary schools in Indiana and throughout the United States. Professional staff members with advanced degrees in a variety of content areas develop lesson plans and assessments that are tailored to our clients' standards, areas of need, and educational goals. The Center also provides consulting, research, scoring, and reporting services for its assessments. We take pride in the educational materials we have produced and continue to develop creative, valid, and easy-to use classroom materials through our collaboration with faculty in Indiana University's School of Education, the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and our clients.
The Center for Innovation in Assessment (CIA) was founded by Dr. Roger Farr, a renowned reading education expert, and Chancellor's Professor Emeritus of Education at Indiana University; and Dr. Leo Fay, former chairman of the Language Education Department at the School of Education at Indiana University. Under their guidance, a number of education-related products and services were created.
The Center for Innovation in Assessment has worked with the Indiana Department of Education and the Commission for Higher Education to develop resources that include: the Indiana Academic Standards, the Standards Resources, the CORE 40 End-of-Course Assessments, the
Informational Text Reading Inventory (ITRI), the
Indiana Reading Diagnostic Assessments, and the Reading Online Assessment Reports (ROAR) System.
The Center for Innovation in Assessment has also worked in cooperation with private clients, such as Classroom, Inc.; Harcourt, Inc.; Holt, Rinehart, and Winston; and TASA, to create curriculum activities, workbooks, and assessments. The Center has also provided consulting and professional development services for a number of school districts throughout Indiana.
